PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery which eliminates a need of extending a lead terminal out of the battery to be connected to a protective circuit, and allows the protective circuit to be housed in a battery case as an existing battery is hardly modified. SOLUTION: A safety device includes a disc 112 and a safety valve 114, which are insulated from each other except on a projection 113. A printed wiring board 115 has a central opening, a conductive pattern on the undersurface electrically connected to the safety valve 114, and a conductive pattern formed on the upper surface connected to the conductive pattern on the lower surface. The printed wiring board 115 carries thereon the protective circuit composed of a p-channel FET element 131 which turns on and off a current path between the positive side of a power element (safety valve 114) and the positive output terminal of the battery (battery lid 116), a control circuit IC 132 which supplies a control signal to the gate of the FET element 131, a fuse 133 inserted in series to the current path, and other circuit elements.
