PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiple discharge type igniter capable of restraining electric power consumption, by reducing the number of part items. SOLUTION: A first series circuit connected with an energy accumulating coil 21, a first diode 3 and a capacitor 6, is arranged between a DC power source E and a grounding terminal GND. A second series circuit of a switching element 5 and an ignition coil 4 is connected to both ends of the capacitor 6. The switching element 5 of the igniter constituted in this way, is controlled so as to perform a plurality of times of ON/OFF operations in ignition operation of a spark plug 8 connected to the secondary side of the ignition coil 4. As a result, capacitive discharge and inductive discharge are alternately repeated in the spark plug 8. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
