PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coil lifter to be attached to a coil carrying device for carrying a coil taken up by a take-up machine such as a strip type steel sheet or steel strip, and a similar metal sheet. SOLUTION: The coil lifter 1 is for carrying the coil 5 in a horizontal hole posture is provided with a mechanism to rotate the coil by a desired angle around the hole while carrying or holding the coil. The rotation mechanism is provided with a pair of rolls 4 which get in contact with the inner diameter side of the coil in the coil axial direction at tips extended downward from a coil lifter main body, and a drive 6, so that the coil is rotated around the coil hole by a desired angle by the drive. In addition, the rotation mechanism provides or releases inner pressure to the inner diameter side of the coil by expansion/contraction of split segments provided in a plurality on the roll while rotating the coil, so that buckling of the inner diameter of the coil is corrected.
