PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable individual users to speedily and securely retrieve and select their favorite contents being musical pieces and pictures that they currently like to listen to and view. SOLUTION: When a user indicates marking during musical piece reproduction by pressing a key for marking and so on, a control means of a content reproducing device determines a part Tm nearby a position indicated by the marking indication as a marking part of the musical piece, and generates and records marking part identification information representing the marking part Tm, or extracts and records musical piece data of the marking part Tm of the musical piece. Preferably, the start point ts and end point te of the marking part Tm are timing points of a beat or measure of the musical piece. For the retrieval, only marking parts of respective marked musical pieces are reproduced one after another and when the user indicates that a whole musical piece is reproduced, the musical piece is reproduced from the beginning.
