PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To start an engine in a fail-safe mode wherein a second intermediate gear attached through a one-way clutch is prevented from being displaced. SOLUTION: When the one-way clutch 30 races and power is not transmitted from an intermediate shaft 23 to the second intermediate gear 25, the mode is turned to the fail-safe mode wherein a first intermediate gear 24 is displaced to the direction approached to the second intermediate gear 25 by the influence of thrust force by meshing with a driving gear 35 constituted by a helical gear, an engagement tooth 25b on an end face of a circumferential sleeve 25a of the second intermediate gear 25 is locked by a receiving tooth 24b of the first intermediate gear 24, and the first intermediate gear 24 and the second intermediate gear 25 are directly connected. Thus, rotation force of a motor 21 is transmitted to a crank gear 16 through the first and the second intermediate gears 24 and 25 not via the one-way clutch 30. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
