PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that conventional silsesquioxane skeleton-having acid anhydrides have low glass transition points and low thermal decomposition temperatures and have sufficiently not exhibited the characteristics of cage type silicon skeletons excellent in rigidity and heat resistance, because of having many flexible methylene bonds in the molecules. SOLUTION: This acid anhydride represented by formula (1), wherein X and Y are each a group independently selected from an alkyl, a cycloalkyl, an aryl or an arylalkyl; Z is a trivalent alicyclic group or a trivalent saturated aliphatic group forming a ring together with an acid anhydride group.
