PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable extraction and operation of solid and surface modeling parameters from unprocessed three-dimensional scan data by a program. SOLUTION: An automated process communicates with a CAD system so that unprocessed three-dimensional scan data can be read to execution of CAD part modeling. An automated function for dividing a mesh model (formed from the unprocessed three-dimensional scan data) into a number of mesh areas is provided to a user. A graphic user interface is provided to the user so that the user can select a type of design intents with a mesh area for which design intents are calculated. Each design intent is shown by a vector, plane or polyline depending on the type of design intents. According to the user's request for modeling feature parameter, the best approximate value to a requested parameter value is calculated by processing the unprocessed three-dimensional scan data by use of one set of functions.
