PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive control device for an engine capable of accurately controlling a combustion air fuel ratio upon start-up. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a combustion condition detection estimation means detecting or estimating a combustion condition in a combustion chamber, a combustion air fuel ratio estimation means estimating combustion air fuel ratio in the combustion chamber based exhaust gas air fuel ratio and the detected or estimated combustion condition, and means operating engine control parameters based on the estimated combustion air fuel ratio.
