PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To greatly inhibit shortening of life of electrodes due to exposure to low pH and high pH during waiting for restart of electrolysis operation of a diaphragm electrolytic cell. SOLUTION: In the operation control method of an electrolytic water generator which controls the electrolysis operation of the diaphragm electrolytic cell, when the electrolysis operation of the diaphragm electrolytic cell is stopped, supply of water to be electrolyzed into the diaphragm electrolytic cell and leading out of electrolytic water from the inside of the diaphragm electrolytic cell are stopped in an interruption of the impression of voltage to the electrodes of the diaphragm electrolytic cell, after the passage of a prescribed time, voltage having reverse characteristics to those of electrolysis is impressed to each electrode in each electrolytic chamber, and the impression of the voltage is maintained until electrolytic water staying in each electrolytic chamber becomes practically neutral, and the electrolytic water staying in each electrolytic chamber stands by in the state of maintaining neutral pH until the electrolysis operation is restarted.
