PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control apparatus for an internal combustion engine, which apparatus can keep the controllability of the internal combustion engine high even when there is such a region that the detection of the time necessary for the rotation of a crankshaft cannot be appropriately performed. SOLUTION: A rotor 9 connected to the crankshaft 8 is provided with teeth portions 9a arranged at an interval of a unit angle. In addition, a no-tooth portion 9b is provided such that the regular arrangement of the teeth portions 9a is irregularly modified. In order to estimate the time necessary for turning by each unit angle within the angular range of (50°CA) including the no-tooth portion 9b and a pair of the neighboring teeth portions 9a, the time necessary for turning by each unit angle within the angular range of (50°CA) separated from the above mentioned range of (50°CA) by (180°CA) is used.
