937,969. Forging gear teeth. MICHIGAN TOOL CO. May 11, 1962 [May 18, 1961], No. 18271/62. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). Gear teeth 44 are formed on a cylindrical workpiece 45 by radially acting blades 15 whose inner ends 43 are shaped along their entire lengths complementary to the spaces between the teeth, the blades being moved inwardly gradually and successively. The blades are mounted in a slotted cage 14 and biased inwardly by spring rings; they are forced inwardly by engagement with inclined surfaces 21, Fig. 1, on parallel members 12, 13 which are moved longitudinally in opposite directions. Simultaneously, the cage is rotated by a gear 52 secured thereto and engaging rack teeth 28 on the members 12, 13. The inclined surfaces 21 are followed by parallel surfaces 22 corresponding to the full depth of the teeth. |
