[PROBLEMS] To provide overhead transfer/storage system and method by which space and floor are highly utilized and products are efficiently carried in and out to and from a storage area. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] An overhead transfer/storage system (1) is provided with at least the storage area (100) for the products (for instance, tire); at least one placing/holding means (300) which holds the product (200) and moves in three dimensional directions, i.e., vertically, horizontally and front and rear, in an overhead space in the storage area (100); and a carry-out means (500) which carries out the product (200) from the storage area (100). A product receiving position (product carry-out position) (501) of the carry-out means (500) is substantially at the center of the storage area (100) in plane view. The system is also provided with a carry-in means (400) for carrying in the product (200) to the storage area (100), and the carry-in means (400) is provided with a product discriminating means (402).
