The invention relates to a method of ensuring a correct lateral registration setting, preferably in a digital multi-color sheet-printing machine, in particular during a printing process, preferably in an electrophotographically operating printing machine, in which the sheets adhering to a support, preferably a transport belt, are transported past printing units. In addition, the invention relates to a suitable printing machine. The object of the invention is to provide a measure by means of which the lateral registration of the sheets can be check, corrected and/or maintained in a simple manner. Inasmuch as the sheet adheres to the support and the sheet position on the support is known, the inventive measure can be used to check and ensure the lateral registration of the sheet in a simple and elegant manner.
