<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an evaluation method of a gas sensor, and an evaluation apparatus of the gas sensor for evaluating the active state of a measuring electrode of the gas sensor. <P>SOLUTION: A mixed gas, containing nitric oxide gas and rich gas (CO, CH<SB>4</SB>), of which the flow rate is adjusted by a flow rate adjusting part 102 is supplied to a reaction part gas piping 123 of a sensor reaction part 120 in which the gas sensor 1, is installed. The mixed gas is adjusted by the flow rate adjusting part 102, such that the flow rate of rich gas is constant, the flow rate of nitric oxide gas fluctuates, and the flow rate of nitrogen gas fluctuate according to the flow rate of nitric oxide gas and that the flow rate of the whole mixed gas supplied from a gas supply part 110 is constant.
