Active noise control system

The system has a control device controlling a loudspeaker (12) in response to signals supplied by a microphone (10) during occurrence of primary sound field, such that an acoustic pressure is reduced in a quiescent area by overlapping of a secondary sound field with the primary sound field. The control device reduces an acoustic pressure at a position of the area and a virtual microphone (16) using the acoustic pressure measured by the microphone (10) and experimentally determined transmission functions for the secondary and primary sound fields at and between the positions of the microphones. An independent claim is also included for a method of reducing an acoustic pressure in a quiescent area by a noise control system.
