A manually operable mitre saw comprises a base 2, a rotatable turret 3 pivotally mounted on the base via a vertical pivot pin, and a saw frame 4 pivotally mounted on the turret via a horizontal pivot pin 5. An electric motor 6 is carried by the saw frame and is adapted to drive a circular saw blade 7, with a hand grip 10 mounted on the saw frame to pivot the saw frame about the horizontal pivot pin. A speed reduction gearbox 6 is interposed between the electric motor and the saw blade, whereby the rotational speed of the saw blade is in the range ca. 750 rpm to ca. 4400 rpm, depending on the blade diameter, the latter being a TCT (tungsten carbide tipped) cutting blade provided with a non-plastic guard 9. |
