An unequal error protection method and a wireless communication apparatus using the same are provided to generate different error-protection effects by various combinations of a code rate and a gain to be applied to each bit stream. Error-correction coding is performed on plural bit streams, and symbol mapping is performed by applying one of plural gains to each error-correction-coded bit stream. The step of performing the symbol-mapping includes independently applying the gain to each error-correction-coded bit stream, or applying different gains to bit streams to be handled as channel I and channel Q for the error-correction-coded bit streams. The step of performing the error-correction coding in parallel includes performing error-correction coding by applying different code rates to the bit streams.
