A mold for glassware forming machine includes a pair of mold segments (14) each having a central portion and laterally spaced edge portions (54) adapted to be brought together at the edge portions to form a mold cavity (16). A coolant shell (68) is externally mounted over the central poriton of each mold segment to form a cooling cavity (58) between the coolant shell and the central portion of the mold segment, and the coolant shells do not extend into the edge portion of the mold segments. Coolant passages (60) separate from the cooling cavities extend axially through the edge portions of the mold segments to facilitate cooling the edge portion in use.
