A flash memory device having a write protection function and a write protection method thereof are provided to protect private information and the usage of the flash memory device from other users, by operating the flash memory device by generating a write signal if an external password inputted by a user coincides with a stored internal password. A program operation mode or a security mode of a flash memory device begins according to a fuse connection state selecting an initial operation state. A user inputs a password from the outside(204). An internal password inputted in the flash memory device is read(205). The internal password and the external password are compared(206). It is judged whether the internal password coincides with the external password(207). If the internal password coincides with the external password, a write signal is enabled(208). When the write signal is enabled, the flash memory device performs a program operation(210).
