PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a styrene-based polymer with controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution through suppressing side reactions in terminating the anionic polymerization. SOLUTION: The method for producing the styrene-based polymer by living anionic polymerization process is provided, being characterized by including adding an alkali metal, an organometallic compound or its ate complex or a mixture thereof to the system after ending the polymerization but prior to adding a polymerization deactivator to the system.
