Provided herein are methods of inducing apoptosis in cancer cells using neobritannilactone B (NAB) or acetyl neobritannilactone B (ANAB). Also provided are pharmaceutical compositions and methods for using NAB or ANAB to prevent or treat cancer in a mammal. Exemplary cancers include, for example, colon cancer, leukemia, and gastric cancer.
