A stereoscopic image display device and a displaying method thereof are provided to realize a 2D(2 Dimension) mode and a 3D(3 Dimension) mode selectively with images having regular high luminance while using a parallax barrier method. A stereoscopic image display device selectively displaying a 2D(2 Dimension) mode and a 3D(3 Dimension) mode includes a main LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) panel(100) displaying a planar image, a parallax barrier LCD panel(130) transmitting light in the front in the 2D mode and displaying a parallax barrier pattern overlapped on the planar image in the 3D mode, and a backlight(150) installed at the rear side of the main LCD panel, supplying light with a first luminance to the main LCD panel in the 2D mode and light with a second luminance higher than the first luminance to the main LCD panel in the 3D mode.
