<p num="1">In a card personalisation system (10) having a plurality of manufacturing stages (30, 40, 50, 70), cards (100), such as chip cards, identity cards, etc. are individually personalised according to a totality of possible processing parameters, it being possible to vary some of the individual processing parameters without having to retrofit the system, while other processing parameters can only be varied when the system is retrofitted for that purpose. The cards are grouped into card groups in a grouping device (20; 60), and the card groups are separately personalised. The cards are grouped into groups of cards which are not personalised with the same processing parameters, or at least not all with the same processing parameters, but the various processing parameters of which do not require retrofitting the system (10) at least for a given manufacturing stage (30, 40, 50, 70).
