PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a curable aqueous resin composition having extremely good curability which excels in water resistance and finishing properties even under normal temperature drying conditions and can maintain the external appearance of the initial coating state even in a severe environment. SOLUTION: The curable aqueous resin composition comprises: (A) an aqueous fatty acid modified resin dispersion which is produced by finely dispersing a monomer mixture (I) comprising a fatty acid modified polymerizable unsaturated monomer (a), a carboxyl group-containing polymerizable unsaturated monomer (b), and other polymerizable monomers (c) in an aqueous medium so as for the average particle diameter to be not greater than 500 nm, and polymerized the resulting monomer emulsion; and (B) a compound having two or more functional groups capable of reacting with carboxyl groups in the molecule; wherein the functional group capable of reacting with the carboxyl group in the compound (B) per mole of the carboxyl group in (A) is in the range of 0.1-3.0 mole.
