<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a high speed image forming process by shortening a first copying time and to improve transfer performance by preventing plastic deformation of a transfer roller. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus in which a toner image formed on the image forming face of each image carrier is transferred to a transfer material by a transfer means and then the transfer material with the toner image carried thereon is fixed by a fixing device, the transfer means includes: an elastic roller which transfers the toner image to the transfer material in pressure-contact with the image carrier via the transfer material; a drive means which brings the elastic roller into pressurized-contact with the image carrier and releases the elastic roller from the pressurized-contact with the image carrier; and a detecting means which detects the temperature of the fixing member of the fixing device. When a temperature detected by the detecting means is equal to or higher than a predetermined temperature, the drive means starts bringing the elastic roller into pressurized-contact with the image carrier. When a temperature detected by the detecting means is equal to or lower than a predetermined temperature, it releases the elastic roller from the pressurized contact with the image carrier. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
