<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber composite material that comprises an elastomer and a vapor phase-grown carbon fiber uniformly dispersed therein and exhibits high flexibility and high rigidity. <P>SOLUTION: The carbon fiber composite material comprises an elastomer and a vapor phase-grown carbon fiber dispersed therein. The vapor phase-grown carbon fiber is a rigid fiber having an average diameter of 20-200 nm, an average length of 5-20μm and an average of the flexing index, defined by expression (1) below, of 5-15. The carbon fiber composite material has a dynamic modulus (E') of at least 30 MPa at 150°C and an elongation at break (EB) of at least 140%. Flexing index=Lx/D (1), where Lx is a length of a linear (un-flexed) portion of the vapor phase-grown carbon fiber and D is a diameter of the vapor phase-grown carbon fiber. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
