A method and a system for providing location information using a roaming gateway are provided to provide a location-based service to a subscriber of a home network located in a visited network through a roaming gateway. A service server receives a request for providing location information of a target terminal from a location-requesting terminal, and transmits a positioning result of the target terminal to the location-requesting terminal. A network determining unit, which includes an LBSP(Location-Base Service Platform)(120) and an MPC(Mobile Positioning Center)(118), receives the location information request, and determines whether the target terminal is located in a visited network connected with a home network. A roaming gateway(164) receives the location information request from the network determining unit, and when the target terminal is located in the visited network, the roaming gateway(164) requests positioning of a base station in the visited network in which the target terminal is located, and receives the positioning result. The positioning result is transmitted to the service server via the network determining unit, and then transmitted to the location-requesting terminal.
