<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information retrieval device and an information retrieval method capable of easily retrieving the desired data at a high speed when retrieving the data by scrolling a list. <P>SOLUTION: The information retrieval device is provided with an information number detection part 51 for detecting the number of a plurality of pieces of information to be retrieved, and a scroll number control section 52 for varying the number of scroll per unit operation quantity according to the number of pieces of information detected by the information number detection part 51. The scroll speed for the list is varied according to the number of lists of music to be retrieved currently. Even when the number of lists to be retrieved is much or less, the appropriate scroll speed not too fast and not too slow is automatically set according to the number of selectable lists.
