PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for conveying a plate in an optional conveyance direction including a straight line or a curved line in a horizontal plane and in an optional conveyance direction in a conveyance region having a difference in height. SOLUTION: A conveyance path for the plate is formed by a pair of conveyance bodies arranged to face each other. In order to secure the conveyance path for a pair of the conveyance bodies, a guide body which coincides with the form of the conveyance path is set on the back side of at least one conveyance body. The conveyance body does not contact the whole width of the plate uniformly and sets a contact region with the plate to be very narrow. The contact region conveys the plate as a part in the neighborhood of the middle in general ranging in the direction intercepting the conveyance direction preferably applicable to the conveyance center line of the plate.
