PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound output device capable of switching an output destination of a sound signal without attaching or detaching an earphone at each time by adding a simple configuration. SOLUTION: The sound output device (television receiver) 1 includes a sound signal output part 7 which selectively switches the output destination of sounds between a speaker 8 and an earphone 19 by a control signal from a control part 13 when receiving a switching signal outputted from a remote controller 4 by a remote control signal reception part 11. In the case that the volume of sounds is equal to or larger than a certain value immediately before switching of the output destination of the sound signal, the sound signal output part 7 limits a maximum volume to the certain value. In the case that a plug 19P of the earphone 19 is not connected to an earphone terminal 9, the earphone terminal 9 is not set as the output destination but only the speaker 8 is set as the output destination though the switching signal is outputted from the remote controller 14.
