PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform interpolation by acquiring a smooth curve, even when a dense point sequence exists in a part of a command point sequence or an interpolation point sequence. SOLUTION: A part of a dense interpolation point group is averaged and replaced with one representative interpolation point Q<SB>3</SB>. The interpolation point sequence Q<SB>1</SB>-Q<SB>6</SB>replaced with the representative interpolation point is defined as a shape command point sequence. Each point of the shape command points is noticed sequentially, and the target point and a predetermined number of the shape command points adjacent to the point are selected, to thereby generate an approximate curve Cm. The target point is moved toward the approximate curve, to acquire a corrected command point. A curve on a point sequence of each corrected command point is generated, and the curve is interpolated. On a dense part of interpolation points, when a curve is generated based on the dense interpolation points, a smooth curve as shown by a dashed line in Fig. 1 cannot be acquired. On the contrary, when the approximate curve Cm is generated by averaging the dense interpolation points and using it as one representative interpolation point Q<SB>3</SB>, a smooth curve can be acquired.
