Disclosed is a material for an organic EL element which can provide an organic EL element having a high brightness, a high efficiency and a long operation life. Also disclosed is an organic EL element using the material. The material comprises a compound represented by the general formula (1): (1) wherein R<SUP>1</SUP> and R<SUP>2</SUP> independently represent a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group.
