A method for preparing a carrier for an olefin polymerization catalyst is provided to obtain smooth spherical carrier particles having a high apparent density and a uniform particle diameter and useful for slurry, bulk of vapor phase polymerization processes. A method for preparing a carrier for an olefin polymerization catalyst comprises the steps of: mixing a magnesium halide compound, an alcohol having 6 or more carbon atoms, an alcohol having 5 or less carbon atoms and a hydrocarbon solvent to form a homogeneous solution; and cooling the homogeneous solution obtained from the preceding step in the presence of a hydrocarbon solvent to obtain carrier particles. The first step and the second step are carried out at a temperature of 80-200 deg.C and -40 to 40 deg.C, respectively.
