<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber comprising a structure enabling high-density packaging into an optical cable while making it possible to transmit signals with a high bit rate in both of wavelength bands of 1.3μm and 1.55μm. <P>SOLUTION: The optical fiber (10, 20) is composed of a core region of Ge added silica glass and a clad region of silica glass, wherein its refractive index profile is such that a portion equivalent to the core region is substantially a unimodal shape. For example, this optical fiber (10, 20) is configured so as to have a mode field diameter of 8.0μm or less at a wavelength of 1.55μm, a cutoff wavelength of 1.26μm or less, and a chromatic dispersion with an absolute value of 12 ps/nm/km or less at wavelengths of 1.3μm and 1.55μm, thereby obtaining an excellent lateral pressure resistance enabling high-density packaging into an optical cable. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
