<p>A lacquer or adhesive comprises the product resulting from the mixture in solution in an organic solvent of an unsaturated polyester, an organic polyisocyanate, an unsaturated modifying agent having a functional grouping which is reactive with the free -NCO groups of the polyisocyanate, and an organic peroxide. Modifying agents specified are: diallylcarbinol, diallyloxypropanol, trimethylolpropane diallyl ether, allyl alcohol, propylene-glycol monoallyl ether, allyl vinyl carbinol, allylpropenyl carbinol, allylamine, diallylamine and diallylamino ethanol. The peroxide may be cumene hydroperoxide or benzoyl peroxide. In Example (1) a solution of the reaction product of hexane 1,2,6-triol and tolylene diisocyanate in ethyl acetate and in admixture with diallylamine was mixed with a solution of the polyester of ethylene glycol and maleic acid in ethyl acetate and the mixture applied to a steel plate.ALSO:Metal surfaces and metal cables are lacquered for protection against corrosion by applying a layer of the product resulting from the mixture in solution in an organic solvent of (1) an unsaturated polyester (2) an organic polyisocyanate (3) an unsaturated modifying agent and (4) an organic peroxide to the metal and curing at 150 DEG C-300 DEG C. for 1-15 minutes to harden the coating. In examples the coating is applied to steel plates and a cable consisting of 5 steel wires.</p> |
