A method for mass producing L-glutamic acid is provided to suppress production inhibition of L-glutamic acid caused by accumulation of high concentration of L-glutamic acid through precipitation of L-glutamic acid during fermentation, thereby improving productivity of L-glutamic acid. The L-glutamic acid is mass produced by culturing Enterobacter agglomerans AJ13601(FERM BP-7207) in broth medium of pH 3-5 containing saturated concentration of L-glutamic acid and a carbon source and precipitating L-glutamic acid, wherein the Enterobacter agglomerans AJ13601(FERM BP-7207) has enzymes having increased activity for catalyzing reactions for biosynthesis of L-glutamic acid, or has enzymes having reduced activity for catalyzing reactions for production of compounds other than L-glutamic acid via divergence from the biosynthesis pathway of L-glutamic acid; the enzyme for catalyzing reactions for biosynthesis of L-glutamic acid is citrate synthase, phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase or glutamate dehydrogenase; and the enzyme for catalyzing reactions for production of compounds other than L-glutamic acid which diverges from the biosynthesis pathway of L-glutamic acid is alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase. |
