PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photographing device and display method that can display an image on a display means at ease, even in some atmospheric dark place and make it easy to grasp the atmosphere of the subject image. SOLUTION: Based upon an image signal of the subject image obtained by photography; an image signal representing an outline image of the subject image is generated, and an image signal of the subject image decreased in luminance is generated. Based upon the generated image signal of the outline image and the generated image signal of the subject image decreased in luminance, a superposed image of the outline image of the subject and the subject image decreased in luminance is displayed on a display surface of the display means.
