PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting a foreign substance such as a parasite and others, especially a method for detecting the parasite in such a state that it is parasitic on meat. SOLUTION: The method for detecting the foreign substance is characterized in that the foreign substance such as the parasite and others is irradiated with a visible light, and an excited fluorescence is detected. The method is suitable for detecting the parasite in such the state that it is parasitic on the meat. The method for detecting the parasite is characterized in that the fluorescence emitted from the parasite is detected selectively by using a filter which does not transmit any exciting light but transmits the fluorescence emitted from the parasite. The method for detecting the parasite is composed of: a light source for irradiating an object to be tested with the visible light having a specific wavelength; the filter for absorbing exciting light reflected irregularly; a camera for photographing the fluorescence from the parasite; an image processing apparatus; and a monitor.
