PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the load of the polishing work of an electrode for removing the deposit evaporated from a sample electrode due to a large number of spark discharges, in an emission analyzer. SOLUTION: In the emission analyzer, having a discharge gap, an igniter circuit and a main discharge power supply, the igniter circuit having an ignition transformer, a pair of current control devices and an exciting power supply, the discharge gap and the main discharge power supply are connected to the secondary coil of the ignition transformer in series, to form a main discharge current route; a pair of the current control devices and the exciting power supply are connected to the primary coil of the ignition transformer in series, to form an exciting current route; and a pair of the current control devices are further connected to each other in an inverse polarity state. The polarity of the high voltage produced in the secondary coil of the ignition transformer is reversed, by reversing the voltage polarity of the exciting power supply and the direction of a main discharge current is reversed by reversing the voltage polarity of the main discharge power supply at the same time. The deposit on the electrode is removed by reversed polarity discharge. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
