PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin obtained by polycondensation in the presence of an antimony compound, having a reduced elution amount of the antimony and good color, and hardly generating byproducts. SOLUTION: The polyester resin is obtained by carrying out an esterification or ester-interchange reaction of a dicarboxylic acid component consisting essentially of aromatic dicarboxylic acid or an ester-forming derivative thereof, with a diol component consisting essentially of ethylene glycol, and polycondensing the resultant product at least in the presence of the antimony compound and a phosphorus compound. The amount of the antimony eluted when granules having 24 mg number average particle weight are soaked in hot water at 95°C for 60 minutes is regulated so as to be 1μg or less per one gram of polyester resin expressed in terms of antimony atom (Sb).
