PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve determination accuracy of the amount of a printing material contained in a printing material container. SOLUTION: Based on unique vibration frequencies of sensor piezoelectric elements provided in each cartridge, switch control data is generated. Based on the switch control data, a printer outputs a switch control signal which controls on/off of a switch. When the switch control signal is at a high level, the switch is in a connected state. Therefore, when the switch control data is [10], the switch SW1 is in the connected state for a period Ta. Therefore, when the printer controls on/off of the switch based on the switch control data, among the drive signals of two signal waveforms SP1 and SP2 contained in one drive signal DS, the drive signal that effectively activates the piezoelectric element 112 can be exclusively applied to the piezoelectric element 112.
