PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a step-down converter that prevents magnetic saturation of an inductor, and can supply a large current to the output. SOLUTION: The step-down converter has a switch 2, to which an input voltage from an input terminal is supplied; an inductor 4 connected to the switch 2; a rectifying means 3 making current flow to an inductor 4, when the switch 2 is open; and a smoothing means 5 for smoothing the current in the inductor 4 for generating output voltage to the output terminal. There is a current bypass circuit 7 for constituting a path for enabling the current to flow from the input terminal to the output one, without going through the intermediary of the inductor 4, when the current flowing into the inductor 4 exceeds a prescribed value.
