<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the generation of an unburned fuel-air mixture and prevent knocking. <P>SOLUTION: This direct injection type internal combustion engine is provided with a fuel injection means 11 directly injecting fuel into a cylinder 1 of the engine, a supply speed detecting means 13 detecting a supply speed of air-fuel mixture formed as a fuel spray injected from the fuel injection means 11 takes in ambient air, a combustion starting means 12 starting combustion of the air-fuel mixture, operation state detection means 14, 15 detecting an operation state of the engine, a combustion speed detection means 13 detecting a burning velocity of the air-fuel mixture corresponding to the operation state, and a gas flow control means 5a variably controlling an intensity of a gas flow in the cylinder 1, and has a first combustion mode by which the gas flow control means 5a controls the gas flow so that the burning velocity can be approximately the same as the supply speed to stationarily keep a combustion flame of the air-fuel mixture in the cylinder 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
