PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide mold powder for continuous casting which can reduce a starting point of a crack in a cast slab after continuous casting of a steel causing austenite-ferrite transformation without performing facility reconstruction accompanied by restriction. SOLUTION: The mold powder for continuous casting of the steel causing austenite-ferrite transformation forms molten slag consisting of mold powder in a mold of continuous casting equipment, wherein the molten slag has such a chemical composition that the value of total CaO%/SiO<SB>2</SB>%, which is the basicity represented by the ratio of the total CaO mass% in terms of CaO amount in the total amount of Ca to the SiO<SB>2</SB>mass%, is 0.25-1.0, and a fluorine content is 5 mass% or less; has a viscosity at 1,300°C of 1-5 Pa s; and further has a vitreous performance index NWi of 1.3 or lower.
