Apparatus for producing bags 8 by simultaneously cutting and welding a web 1 of weldable material, e.g. polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride, in sheet or tube form, comprises a heated cutting-welding tool 3, a support 2 for the material to co-operate with the tool 3, and at least one air-blast guide member 4 disposed adjacent the tool 3 and the support 2 so as to direct a current of air towards the juncture of the tool 3 and the support 2 to separate the material from the tool 3 after the cutting-welding operation, the member 4 being adjustably mounted so as to direct the air-blast in a direction generally coincident with the longitudinal axis of the web 1 either parallel thereto or at an angle of up to 90 degrees thereto. Two air blast members 4, 5 having nozzles extending over the whole length of the tool 3 are connected to a supply pipe 6 disposed along the tool 3 and deliver a welded bag 8 to a conveyer 7. Preferably the air supplied is preheated. |
