<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation mode controlling method in which the operation mode of a CPU can be allowed to follow a change in the load of the CPU, a processing speed can be improved and power saving can be achieved. <P>SOLUTION: When a power supply for a video/sound processing apparatus 1 is turned on, a control part 200 starts to operate and any one of applications in an application group 3000A is executed (S9). When a state and operation requiring that the control part 200 is allowed to follow the processing of the application is generated, the application executes state management for detecting the state and the operation (S10). Then, a command is transmitted to a load monitor watcher 309 to instruct the load monitor watcher 309 so as to neglect information transmitted from a load monitor 200b (S11). Then, a previously determined performance mode is judged on the basis of the state and the operation and the judged result is transmitted to the load monitor watcher 309 (S12).
