<p>A method and apparatus for displaying data on bi-stable and non-bi-stable displays is provided. The apparatus includes a controller chip (29) capable of being connected to a non-bi-stable display (1004C) through a first interface channel (1002) and also capable of being connected to a bi-stable display (1004B) via the first interface channel (1002) and an additional second interface channel (1006). When connected the non-bi-stable display (1004C), the second interface channel (1006) is not connected. The second interface channel (1006) may carry mode information bits to the bi-stable display module (1004B) to allow the bi-stable display to utilize power-saving features.</p> |
