PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which has a fixing roller and a separation claw abutting against the surface of the fixing roller and can cleanly remove toner staying at the part of the separation claw which abuts against the fixing roller surface. SOLUTION: When fixing operation ends ("YES" at S13), a control unit detects the current surface temperature of the fixing roller (S14). According to the detected temperature, a value of acceleration at the start of reverse driving of the fixing roller is set (S15). For example, the value of reversing acceleration is set to 500 (mm/s<SP>2</SP>) when the roller surface temperature is 200(°C) and to 1,000 (mm/s2) when 180(°C).
