An electrode pad packaging system including a defibrillation electrode pad, a wire and a retaining structure is disclosed. The wire extends from the defibrillation electrode pad. The retaining structure is configured to maintain the wire in a looped configuration, where the wire forms at least one loop. A radius of the loop is configured to decrease in response to movement of at least a portion of the wire away from the defibrillation electrode. A cross-section of the retaining structure may have a closed shape or may have a slot therein to allow the wire to pass therethrough. A method of packaging a defibrillation electrode is also disclosed. The method includes providing an electrode pouch, a defibrillation electrode pad, a wire and a retaining structure.
