The unit has a processing device (18) for receiving an image signal over an input terminal (16), where the signal is output by a monitor controlling unit (1) for controlling a monochrome monitor. The signal controls the monitor such that graphical objects (9, 10) are displayed on the monitor, where each object is assigned with a color based on a preset dependency. Another image signal with color image data is produced for controlling a color monitor (2`). The color monitor is controlled with the latter signal such that the objects are displayed with assigned colors on the monitor (2`). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device with a monitor controlling device (2) a method for producing image signal, containing color graphical data for controlling a color monitor.
